Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions before booking your appointment? Here are some common questions about physiotherapy, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, sports injury rehab, office syndrome treatment, and recovery programs at Physio First Phuket & TCM.

Do I need to see a doctor before booking physiotherapy?

No, you do not always need a doctor’s referral before booking physiotherapy. Our physiotherapist can assess your movement, pain, strength, and injury history to understand what may be causing your symptoms. If we feel your condition needs medical investigation, imaging, or specialist care, we will guide you to the right next step.

What conditions do you treat at Physio First Phuket & TCM?

We help with back pain, neck pain, office syndrome, sports injuries, post-surgery rehabilitation, shoulder pain, knee pain, ankle injuries, muscle tightness, chronic pain, and movement-related problems. We also offer Traditional Chinese Medicine services such as acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine when suitable.

Can physiotherapy help lower back pain?

Yes, physiotherapy can help many types of lower back pain, especially when the pain is related to movement, muscle imbalance, weakness, stiffness, posture habits, or repeated strain. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, movement assessment, strengthening exercises, mobility work, and a home exercise plan.

What is the difference between physiotherapy and TCM?

Physiotherapy focuses on movement, strength, mobility, pain education, injury recovery, and rehabilitation. Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on restoring balance in the body through treatments such as acupuncture, cupping, electro-acupuncture, and herbal medicine. At our clinic, we may combine both approaches when it is suitable for the client.

Is acupuncture painful?

Most people feel only a small pinch or mild sensation when the needles are inserted. Some people feel heaviness, warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation during treatment. Our TCM doctor will explain the process and adjust the treatment based on your comfort level.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your condition, pain level, goals, and how long the problem has been present. Some people feel better after a few sessions, while chronic pain, sports injuries, or post-surgery rehabilitation usually need a structured plan over several weeks.

Do you treat sports injuries?

Yes. We treat sports injuries such as ankle sprains, knee pain, shoulder injuries, muscle strains, tendon pain, running injuries, and post-competition pain. Our goal is not only to reduce pain but also to help you return to training safely with better strength, control, and confidence.

Can I come for treatment if I have office syndrome?

Yes. Office syndrome is one of the common conditions we treat. Symptoms may include neck pain, shoulder tightness, upper back pain, headaches, wrist pain, or discomfort from long hours at a desk. Treatment may include physiotherapy, acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, posture advice, and strengthening exercises.

Do you provide post-surgery rehabilitation?

Yes. We provide rehabilitation after surgeries such as ACL reconstruction, knee surgery, shoulder surgery, hip surgery, spine surgery, and C-section recovery. Your rehabilitation plan will depend on your surgery type, healing stage, surgeon’s protocol, and personal goals.

Do you speak English?

Yes. We provide treatment and communication in English and Thai. Many of our clients are expats, tourists, athletes, and local residents in Phuket.
